I qualified as a solicitor in 2015 whilst working at a niche firm just outside Winchester that dealt solely with Landlord and Tenant matters. I then moved on to a Dorset firm where I dabbled in residential conveyancing before moving on to commercial property which is now my focus. I have often found my background knowledge in landlord and tenant matters and residential work very helpful in the commercial transactions I have dealt with.
I joined Chubb Bulleid in April 2019.
The cases I handle include leases, lease renewals, sales and acquisitions (involving agricultural land, small development sites, commercial units and pubs), easements and refinancing. I also deal with residential long leasehold matters, including lease extensions, collective enfranchisement, the right of first refusal and the right to manage. I have a particular fondness for leases and so particularly enjoy dealing with commercial lease and residential long leasehold files.
I enjoy a challenge, and so one of my favourite parts of the job is stumbling across something unusual or an instruction that I have never encountered before. It’s a cliché, but it is always nice to learn something new, and to solve the unsolvable.
I am married and have one child who is still relatively new to the world and takes up most of my spare time. I don’t often find myself with an abundance of time for anything other than work and childcare these days, but when I do I like to spend my time on lovely countryside walks, board games, crafty things and a spot of baking.
Beach or countryside
Both, in abundance, and we’re lucky in the UK as we do have some of the best of both.
Dark chocolate or milk chocolate
Dark chocolate, but really I’m just happy to see that white chocolate isn’t an option. Horrible stuff.
What would be top of your bucket list?
I would love to take a trip to Svalbard, Norway for a glimpse of the northern lights. Now that I have a little girl, who probably wouldn’t appreciate a trip to the freezing arctic, I think this one will have to wait a few years.
It’s a tie between Rear Window and It’s a Wonderful Life (not just at Christmas time!). I’m clearly a Jimmy Stewart fan.
